Valery Bondur
Valery Bondur was born on October 28, 1947, in Poltava, the former Soviet Union. He is a space geoscientist, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the president of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and the chairman of the Innovation Academy of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences.
From 1968 to 1972, Valery Bondur studied at the Moscow Power Institute and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in space geoscience. From 1974 to 1999, he worked at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Comets, holding positions as an engineer, deputy director of research, and chief designer. In 1980, he obtained a doctorate in engineering from the Moscow Power Institute, and in 1990, he received a doctorate in science from the same institution. From 1999 to 2003, he served as the director of the Center for Environmental Monitoring and Information Technology at the Russian Komet Central Scientific Research Institute. From 2000 to 2018, he was the director of the Institute of Aerospace Monitoring under the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In 2003, he was elected as an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2017, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2017 to 2022, he served as the vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Valery Bondur mainly conducts research on providing theoretical foundations and methodologies for the creation of space observation systems for the ocean, atmosphere, land, and near-Earth space.
1. Scientific Achievements
Valery Bondur has been engaged in research on natural disaster monitoring, environmental protection, marine exploration, and related earth sciences. He has developed methods for space spectral measurement of ocean remote sensing and multi-frequency radio wave recording, multi-frequency radiography and radiation measurement, as well as remote diagnosis methods for short-term precursors of strong earthquakes and online satellite monitoring methods for the atmosphere and ionosphere. He has established new information features corresponding to the spectral imaging of space objects that reflect the shape, direction, and energy distribution of the objects. He has discovered early unknown phenomena of spatial structure deformation of ocean waves and honeycomb-like structures in the near-surface ocean layer, revealed new changes in the geomorphic contour lines detected by satellite images during the gestation and outbreak of earthquakes, and clarified the interaction mechanism between deep hydrophysical fields and surface waves and the near-surface ocean layer. The methods and theories he proposed have solved a series of key problems in earth observation and have been applied in five remote sensing satellite systems in Russia. The projects he initiated, including marine space monitoring, monitoring of natural disasters and air pollution, and satellite monitoring of terrestrial ecosystems, are either being implemented or planned for implementation.
Valery Bondur founded the Institute of Space Observations of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
2. Academic Works
As of November 2022, according to the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Valery Bondu has published over 650 monographs and articles, with an H-index of 64.
